“ This review is only based off takeout and the food itself. I called in my order and I was so glad the person who took my order spoke perfect English it made ordering a breeze! I called in for their infamous fish wrap which is their specialty. I got there in 30 minutes and my order was ready. It's a super tiny place packed with a lot of tables and especially with a lot of people. It's very tight and hard to walk through but being packed is a good sign! Also almost every table I saw had a baked cat fish. I also did order a large rare beef salad cooked with lime. I paid $66 even for a small size fish and the large beef salad. I didn't get to try everything fresh unfortunately and ended up trying it the next day since I live in San Diego and brought it back home but once I got home I was too tired to eat. But the food all still tasted fresh and amazing! The beef salad was fresh and had the right amount of sauce. It had a lot of meats and vegetables. It was the "tai" beef that comes with your pho either inside or on the side. The sauce was good! The main star of the show the fish wrap and what I've read so many reviews about was delicious! The fish was big for a small size! It was way more than enough to feed my husband and I. It could have fed 4 honestly. Even though we ate it the next day, we threw it in the oven to bake and warm up and crisp the skin up a bit, it was still good! The skin was crispy and the fish meat was nice and tender! I love all the fried shallots on top! I also liked how I omitted peanuts and they put it in a container on the side for me. It came with all the fixings packed up for us like lettuce, mint, rau rom, banana vegetable (which was a 1st for me but very delicious and crunchy), cucumbers, pickled carrots and daikon, rice papers, and vermicelli noodles. It also came with 2 different sauces which tasted like a pineapple+mam nem sauce and another tamarind sauce. Both were really good! They were not sweet at all! I read a lot of reviews about their sauce and was scared it was going to be too sweet for me since I'm familiar with a lot of restaurants in OC sauces being too sweet. But to my surprise it was good to my taste buds! ”
“ food: - catfish (4/5): it was delicious especially w/ the crispy skin, but personally the texture seemed like it was a bit overcooked -- also ordered a small - pork eggrolls (5/5): crispy exterior, huge portion of pork meat inside service (5/5) - all the servers kept checking up on us, making sure our food was good, provided us napkins, and refilled our waters; had no trouble flagging them down ** no issues w/ parking ”
“ Okay so we've been back here several times since the first review and there's several reasons why. First the ca nuong is one of the best in the area, the fish fresh and cooked perfectly every time. We love how crispy the skin gets without compromising the tenderness and moistness of the flesh. Secondly They're always on the move constantly checking in on the guests and refilling whatever is necessary! Lastly, there are so accommodating with our dietary restrictions and our food sensitivities. We have a new found allergy to peanuts and I forget to omit it at times, and on both occasions they've offered to just remake the baked fish for us. No issues and so nice about it. We love coming here, it's so satisfying every time. ”
“ Per Gaming Foodie on IG, Nam Giao has the best crispy baked fish in the OC. I definitely agree! Nam Giao's crispy fish spring rolls are absolutely next level. The fish is crispy, tender, flavorful, and seasoned just right--delicate but packed with taste. What really stands out is the balance of flavors. The rolls are served with a tangy tamarind dipping sauce that complements the fish perfectly, and there's a freshness from the herbs and veggies wrapped inside. It's the kind of dish that makes you wish you ordered more than one. If you're a fan of fresh, crunchy, and flavorful spring rolls, do yourself a favor and order these. My husband and I shared a large and we were very satisfied. Highly recommend to anyone visiting Nam Giao! Pro tip: call about 10 minutes before you get to the restaurant. Your whole table will already be set up when you arrive with the fish ready to go. ”
“ My family and I decided to try this place on a friend's recommendation, but we had no idea we could order the roasted catfish ahead of time. When we got there, there was no wait so we were seated immediately. We ordered a com tam thit nuong, wonton noodle soup, and XL roasted catfish. It was a good thing we ordered more food in addition to the catfish, because we were pretty hungry and it took nearly an hour for it to come out. The com tam was okay--the egg cake had artificial crab in it which was a bit strange to me and the thịt nướng was super dry. The wonton soup was better but the wonton filling was a little dry as well. The roast catfish was definitely the star! The skin was super crispy yet the meat was really moist. I'd say it was the best I've had so far compared to all of the roasted catfish I've tried at other restaurants. And despite the long wait, the service was still really good. However, I would definitely make sure to order ahead to avoid the long wait for the fish. ”
“ This eatery specializes in baked whole catfish ( Ca Nuong Da Don) and the prices are fair. I Opted for the medium sized catfish. I make it a point to call in and place my order so when our party arrived the whole catfish and condiments are served promptly. All the fresh veggies, noodles, rice paper and sauces are included to make handrolls. Parking here is easy to find since it's a strip center shared by many businesses. Service by the family & staff are friendly and accommodating. I've always eaten in, so the food is piping hot, and the catfish skin is crispy - just the way I like it. The interior decor is basic and casual, so this place is convenient. Overall, a good option for healthy meal and I recommend Nam Giao restaurant. ”
“ This spot has a been a favorite for a long time for those that love ca nuong (baked catfish). They have been around for a long time and have been specializing in ca nuong since the beginning. I love that they give you plenty of wraps, herbs, lettuce, pickled items, and everything needed for your baked catfish. The fish comes out perfectly baked with the crispy skin and always with plenty of meat. When I last went here we got a large for 3 people and it was the perfect amount of food. The service here is also excellent. They check up on you and make sure to fill your drinks. Just be warned some of their other food items aren't very good. However, they have some really good banh beo. But the ca nuong is definitely the star and what you should be getting here no doubt. ”
